music listography: list your favourite concerts on film

  • Pink Floyd – Live at Pompeii
  • Rush – A Show of Hands (a tour that was rough for the band, due to technical limitations of the time, complexity of the music and illnesses, but they were still professionals and maintained their musicianship and humour)
  • Various Artists – Woodstock (the film of the concert that summed up an entire generation)
  • The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter (a dark time, rendered starkly on film)
  • Various Artists – Festival Express (a crazy venture that actually worked)
  • The Band – The Last Waltz (the end of an era shown in beauty)
  • The Talking Heads – Stop Making Sense (can a concert document be art in and of itself?  YES!)
  • Neil Young – Rust Never Sleeps (ponderous, monumental)
  • Led Zeppelin – The Song Remains the Same (ponderous, plodding, overwrought and overthought – much like the band and their music during this era – in other words PERFECT!)
